Established in January 2022 as an extension of Platinum Healthcare, Platinum Community Care (PCC) is proud to have played a leading role in one of the largest humanitarian initiatives in recent New York City history. PCC successfully delivered case management and social work services to asylum seekers across New York State. Within just six months, we scaled operations to over 1,100 social workers and case workers working across more than 40 shelters, from New York City to Rochester, and after one year overseeing behavioral health at more than 50 hotels with more than 1,500 employees.
Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers (HERRC)
In collaboration with NYC Health + Hospitals and the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers (HERRC), Platinum helped develop and implement the City’s Asylum Behavioral Health Program. As the needs of asylum seekers continually evolved, we adopted our services to support a diverse range of cases, including families, single adult makes and individuals with complex medical and behavioral health needs. As part of our work with HERRC, we not only launched and managed operations at large-scale humanitarian “megasites” across Manhattan and Brooklyn, including the massive tent complex at Floyd Bennett Field. Additionally, Platinum helped open, design, and operate the Behavioral Health Intake program at the Arrival Center — a critical component of the City’s asylum program, creating a centralized hub to triage and support incoming asylum seekers. Recognizing the essential role of stable housing in long-term recovery and independence, Platinum also partnered with The City of New York and other organizations to support asylum seekers in transitioning out of hotels through the Exit Planning Program.
Housing and Preservation Development Organization (HPD)
In coordination with the Housing and Preservation Development Organization (HPD), Platinum helped manage emergency housing needs at small hotel sites when the HERRC sites could not accommodate the growing population of asylum seekers entering New York City. In addition to supporting behavioral health needs at the sites, Platinum handled the day-to-day logistics such as food service, coordination of transportation, checking guests in and out of the site, tracking inventory of supplies, ordering supplies.
Extenuating Circumstances Program
In cooperation with the Extenuating Circumstances Program and the New York City Office of Emergency Management (NYCEM), Platinum assisted asylum-seeking guests at The St. Brigid’s Site in downtown Manhattan who had overstayed their time in designated hotels by helping them obtain extended stay allowances and coordinating their placement at alternative housing sites. Platinum’s team of case workers, legal supervisors and managers served as case reviewers, responsible for conducting thorough reviews of client records, collecting information, and making decisions about extensions of emergency shelter based on case record.
